Dorene’s Low Carb Hot Chocolate

  • ¼ Cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk this only has 2 grams carb per cup- it’s Diamond brand
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1-2 tsp oil can be coconut or EVOO or melted butter to mix with cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • Sweetener to taste we like 20 drops of stevia and 20 drops of Sweet 10
  • Dash of sea salt


  1. In a small pan heat the oil or butter until melted
  2. Mix or whisk in the cocoa powder
  3. Add the cream, milk, water, sweetener and salt and mix well
  4. Simmer until it’s heated through and give it a final whisk to make sure there is no “skin” on it
  5. Pour into two cups

A message from Dorene: This is a ton of fat, but my daughter isn’t very hungry upon waking and usually needs a “fat boost” so this is how we start the day. It makes 2 cups, which is a lot and she slowly sips on this throughout the morning.
